British Carp Cup Ladies Event 2016
I thoroughly enjoyed fishing in the British Carp Cup Ladies Event last weekend at Wetlands Fishery, Retford. As last year’s runner up I was determined to fish my heart out and go for first place.
With plenty of preparation and a 24 hour session on the venue the weekend before, I was feeling confident. Plenty of blow back rigs were made with my trusty Ashima Indispensable Carp Barbless Size 6 hooks, Ashima Groundhog 15lb and Silicone.
My bait was well prepared with a bucket of carpy boilies and a big bucket of Supreme Fish Mix and Partimix with Fish Boost from Cheshire Particle. I also took some Hemp and Maize with me in case I should need it, fantastic quality and super fresh as always supplied from the founder of Cheshire Particle… Mark.
As always, a fantastic event run by Mick and Belinda and as luck would have it, I was first out in the draw. On Friday afternoon I had the first fish out, a 10.1lb Mirror. Wetlands are a very tricky venue to fish, with plenty of snags and finger islands. The water level was also very low, making playing and landing my fish difficult to say the least.
A brilliant start shortly followed by a 13.8lb Mirror an hour later. Friday night was slow, and I lost a couple of fish to a gravel bar near to where my traps were set. Saturday afternoon, at around the same time I was into a fish. A lovely mirror graced the bank weighing in at 26.15lb!
A new PB for me! A new PB in a competition was an absolute dream for me, I couldn’t believe it! At 7.40pm on the Saturday night I banked an 11.15lb scaley mirror, taking my total weight of fish to 62.07lb – a 29lb lead.
Again, another slow night on the Saturday, but waking up I found I was still in the lead. The hooter went at 12pm and I was totally elated with my result! What an honour to be British Carp Cup
